H.E.L.L.O Hot Chocolate!
Ok so the time has come…temperatures have fallen, well at least in Wisconsin they have, and we even had our first snowfall last week!!
And ya know what…the first snow fall you just HAVE to have hot cocoa right?
Have you ever pulled out one of the packaged hot chocolate mixes at the supermarket before and checked out the ingredients?
You know, the ones in a box at the supermarket, the processed kinds! Prepare yourself, there are so many questionable ingredients that your head will start spinning!
So I set out to make my own homemade organic hot cocoa mix recipe and I was shocked at how easy it was to make! For real!
Meet My Family
We have a lot of new faces here, so I want to take this opportunity to welcome you to Whole Lifestyle Nutrition. We are so glad you are here!
I thought I’d take a moment to introduce you to my family. Yah, that is the love of my life, Dave. Handsome isn’t he? 😀
We have 3 beautiful girls that amaze me every day. I am so blessed to have them in my life. I have a set of twins (Aubree is on the left and Brynn is on the far right) and then Kenna is my oldest.
Yah, and here I am with my babies…I know, they aren’t babies, but to me they sure are. They still call me mama. I absolutely LOVE that and hope they always continue calling me that.
Our family absolutely loves sledding and snowboarding! We have some pretty incredible sledding parks here in Wisconsin. We sure do get a lot of snow up here, and pretty much stay snowed in for close to 6 months so we embrace the winter weather.
Enjoying A Delicious Cup of Hot Cocoa
After spending several hours out on a cold winters day, we almost always come in and warm up with a cozy cup of hot cocoa!
I mean look at this picture, don’t you want a cup? What’s not to love about a rich cup of hot chocolate?
Adding Marshmallows To Your Cocoa
My girls absolutely LOVE marshmallows in their cocoa, and so do I! But here is the thing…there are some pretty nasty marshmallows out there, so keep and eye out for marshmallows that are made with quality ingredients.
We actually buy ours from a local health food store, but my favorite brand when I can’t make it to the local store is Organic Vanilla Marshmallows. They are organic and made with GMO-free ingredients.
I understand that a cup of cocoa is a treat, and so do my girls. I am okay if they want to splurge with a cup of cocoa that has sugar iamn it and topped with velvety marshmallows. It is a treat you all, it is okay to splurge and enjoy!
Making Your Own Marshmallows
So go ahead and add in your favorite marshmallows, oh and if you feel compelled to make your own, they are super easy to make.
Just make sure that you are using a quality gelatin from a grass fed source! This is my brand of choice,Great Lakes Unflavored Gelatin, Kosher.
Here is an incredible recipethat shows you how easy it is to make your own quality marshmallows. Oh and your kids will love making these little gems too!
A Great Holiday Gift {Especially For Teachers}!
With 3 girls in school, I am always looking for a creative teacher’s gift that is from the heart and is reasonable, easy and affordable to make!
Check out that adorable cup in the picture below! I got that at Michaels for $2.95. While you’re there grab some cute ribbon to tie on the mason jar, or better yet, you can get some cute little bags to add the cocoa mix in.
A Free Template For An Attachable Recipe Card
Then just place the small bag of homemade organic hot cocoa mix and a recipe card nicely typed out (you can find free holiday printable recipe cards here) and a little bag of homemade marshmallows. Super cute right?
My girls love to help with this part and it is super cute when it is in their own words!

It is time for us to get back to sledding so we can come back home in about an hour or so and pull out the homemade organic hot cocoa mix recipe and snuggle up with each other in front of a warm fire.
We’ve got some sledding to do, oh and our new favorite…snowboarding (have you tried it??, It is hard…but super fun!)
