1. A Family Affair (2024)
‘A Family Affair’ is a romantic comedy that revolves around Zara, whose boss, a movie star named Chris Cole, falls in love with her mother, Brooke. Zara doesn’t like Chris and doesn’t like him dating her mom. Kidman stars Brooke, while Zac Efron and Joey King play Chris and Zara, respectively. Kathy Bates plays the role of Brooke’s mom, Leila. 2. Babygirl (2024)
From the house of A24 comes this erotic thriller starring Kidman and Antonio Banderas. The rest of the cast includes Harris Dickinson, Jean Reno, Sophie Wilde, Victor Slezak, and Izabel Mar. The film aims to explore the sexuality and power dynamics in a workplace and centers on an illicit relationship between a successful CEO (Kidman) and a young intern (Dickinson). Banderas plays Kidman’s husband, Sophie Wilde plays her assistant, and Jean Reno is a business rival. It is written and directed by Halina Reijn, of whom this is the second collaboration with A24 after ‘Bodies Bodies Bodies.’ The project is currently in its post-production stage and will be released on December 20, 2024.
3. Spellbound (2024)
Kidman is a part of the voice cast of ‘Spellbound,’ an animated film that follows Ellian, a princess who has to go on an adventurous quest after her parents are turned into monsters due to a mysterious spell. In the fantasy film, directed by Vicky Jenson, Kidman lends her voice to Queen Ellsmere, along with Rachel Zegler (Princess Ellian) and Javier Bardem (King Solon). The voice cast also includes John Lithgow, Jenifer Lewis, Nathan Lane, André De Shields, Jordan Fisher, and Tituss Burgess. The film is currently in the post-production stage and is slated to premiere on Netflix sometime in 2024.
4. Holland, Michigan (TBA)
‘Holland, Michigan’ is a thriller that centers on a woman who starts having an affair after suspecting that her husband is cheating on her. Kidman headlines the cast as Nancy. She is also producing the film, which co-stars Rachel Sennott, Matthew Macfadyen, Gael García Bernal, Jude Hill, and Lennon Parham. The Mimi Cave-directed project is in the post-production stage with no release date attached yet.
5. The Last Anniversary (TBA)
Based on Liane Moriarty’s novel of the same name, ‘The Last Anniversary’ is an upcoming 6-episode series directed by John Polson. Alongside Kidman, the cast includes Teresa Palmer, Miranda Richardson, Danielle Macdonald, Helen Thomson, Susan Prior, and Claude Scott-Mitchell. Samantha Strauss has written the script and it will be Kidman’s third film on a Liane Moriarty adaptation after ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’ (2021) and ‘Big Little Lies’ (2017).
In the film, based around the fictional Scribbly Gum Island, we meet two sisters, Connie and Rose, who decide to raise a baby girl whose parents cannot be found. Fast forward 70 years and a lady named Sophie Honeywell inherits a house on the island and arrives there to discover that it has only women. ‘The Last Anniversary’ is a mystery drama that explores family, motherhood, and its legacy. The film, to be distributed by Binge TV, is currently in its post-production stage though we have yet to get a release date.
6. The Perfect Couple (TBA)
Kidman executive produces and stars in ‘The Perfect Couple,’ a Netflix series that showcases a lavish wedding involving the wealthy Nantucket Winbury family, which ends in a disaster when a dead body is found at the venue just before the ceremony. The mystery drama, created by Jenna Lamia based on Elin Hilderbrand’s eponymous novel, features Kidman as Greer Garrison Winbury, the matriarch of the family and a famous novelist, along with Liev Schreiber, Dakota Fanning, Eve Hewson, Billy Howle, and Meghann Fahy. The show is currently in production; no premiere date has yet been attached.
8. Nine Perfect Strangers Season 2 (TBA)
Kidman will reprise resort director Masha in the second season of Hulu’s ‘Nine Perfect Strangers.’ The drama series, also executive produced by the actress, follows nine stressed-out city people who visit a luxurious health and wellness resort for healing and transformation. The new season, set in the Swiss Alps, co-stars Christine Baranski, Lucas Englander, Annie Murphy, Murray Bartlett, Dolly de Leon, and Maisie Richardson-Sellers. New recruits include Henry Golding, Mark Strong, and Lena Olin. The show, created by David E. Kelley based on Liane Moriarty’s eponymous novel, first premiered in 2021 and was renewed in June 2023. The second season is currently in production and awaits a release date.
9. Things I Know to Be True (TBA)
The Amazon Prime Video’s family drama series ‘Things I Know to be True’ is going to begin production in June this year. Kidman is the only revealed cast member and the series will follow an Australian married couple, Bob and Fran Price (Kidman), and their adult children whose decisions affect their lives in unexpected ways. Writer Andrew Bovell wrote the show, based on his own award-winning play of the same name. Both Kidman and Bovell serve as executive producers. A release date is awaited.
10. The Perfect Nanny (TBA)
‘The Perfect Nanny’ is an HBO limited series, based on Leïla Slimani’s eponymous 2016 novel, which revolves around a nanny who turns sinister and performs a gruesome act while working for a couple with two young children. Slimani was inspired by the real-life murder of Lucia and Leo Krim by their nanny in 2012 to write the novel. The show is created by Maya Erskine, who will executive produce and star along with Kidman. However, their characters remain undisclosed. The series is currently gearing up for pre-production without a known filming schedule.
11. Kay Scarpetta (TBA)
Kidman teams up with Jamie Lee Curtis to executive produce and star in ‘Kay Scarpetta,’ a drama show based on Patricia Cornwell’s eponymous novel series. The novel series follows the cases Dr. Kay Scarpetta, the chief medical examiner of the Commonwealth of Virginia, investigates. While Kidman steps into the shoes of the titular character, Curtis plays her sister Dorothy. No other cast member has been revealed yet. Elizabeth Sarnoff serves as the showrunner of the Amazon Prime Video series, which has received a 2-season order with eight episodes each season. It is currently in the pre-production phase.
12. Big Little Lies Season 3 (TBA)
Both Kidman and Reese Witherspoon, who played two of the five leads in Season 1 and Season 2 of the hit crime drama, have made it clear that Season 3 is happening. Their confirmation is supported by HBO CEO Casey Bloys too. However, that’s all we know for now. Considering that the two actors were joined by Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley, and Zoë Kravitz, we can expect they will be back too. The five women together make the lead characters, upper-class moms, hailing from Monterey, California, who are suspects in a murder case. The series is based on Liane Moriarty’s 2014 New York Times Best Selling novel of the same name. More details are awaited about production and release are awaited.
13. Margo’s Got Money Troubles (TBA)
From showrunner David E. Kelley (‘Big Little Lies’), ‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles’ is an upcoming 8-part series produced by A24 and will stream on Apple TV+. Kidman along with Elle Fanning have been roped in for the project that is based on the upcoming novel (slated for June 11 publication) written by Rufi Thorpe. Kelley will be adapting it for the screen. Kidman is executive producing along with Elle and her sister Dakota Fanning.
The plot follows Margo Millet, played by Elle, who is a former pro-wrestler who always knew she had to live on her own without anyone’s support. She enrolls at the local junior college and gets into a brief affair with her English teacher during which she gets pregnant and keeps the baby. On the verge of getting evicted and all out of cash, her estranged father Jinx knocks on her door and moves in with her. She then decides to open an OlyFans account and uses Jinx’s advice from the world of wrestling to make a compelling character out of herself and have people like her. Soon, she tastes success but the question is: is she prepared for it? Kidman will presumably play Margo’s mother who is a Hooter waitress. The series is currently in its pre-production stage and more details are awaited.
14. Special Ops: Lioness Season 2 (TBA)
‘Special Ops: Lioness’ will return for its second season, ‘Lioness.’ Unlike Season 1, which followed one story, Season 2 will reportedly be an anthology whose events will be set in Mexico and center on the war against its drug cartel. It will see the return of Zoe Saldana, Nicole Kidman, Laysla De Oliveira, Michael Kelly, and Morgan Freeman. Genesis Rodriguez, Jill Wagner, Dave Annable, James Jordan, and LaMonica Garrettalso co-star. Series creator Taylor Sheridan will be showrunning it. Production of Season 2 has begun in Texas. A release date is yet to be attached to it.
15. Hope (TBA)
Kidman has reportedly been roped in for an Amazon Studios series adapted from the Norwegian film of the same name. The film is directed by Maria Sødahl and stars Stellan Skarsgård and Andrea Bræin. Alice Bell is adapting it for the platform. The series will take place over the course of 12 days of Christmas and follow a family, its six children, and the unraveling marriage. Kidman is also set to executive produce. No other cast member has been revealed as of now. The project is in its nascent stages, and more details are awaited.
