Aunt Lou here.

Michael LOVES spicy food. We have to have a gigantic bottle of Frank’s Hot Sauce in our house at all times. He puts it on everything! There is usually enough on his plate that it can make my eyes water from across the table. I, however, am not a spicy person. It is literally painful for me to eat something spicy.

Michael has learned to change his idea of what is hot when talking to me. He will taste it and let me know if I can take it. Unfortunately, his natural idea of what is mild is much more than I can take. So we had a little bit of a learning period while I had a painfully burning mouth and lips.

Then we visited a local wing place, (Michael is obsessed with wings) where they let you choose the flavor and the heat. Michael’s buffalo wings at other restaurants always smelled so good, but after the first try and my lips burning off, I decided I would just enjoy the smells from there on out. This particular restaurant let me choose the buffalo flavor and mild heat though! It was so yummy that I knew we had to figure out a way to do this at home.

As you know, we came across the deal of the century on meat and already have multiple packs of wings in our freezer. Well, dear Michael calls me from the store and is extremely excited. He has found a pack of 14 whole wings for a ridiculously cheap price and wants to know if I want wings for dinner. I can’t deny him, so I say sure. (Aren’t I good wife? 😉 )

He wanted to make them, so I was definitely for that. He adapted our normal buffalo recipe for these Crock Pot Buffalo Chicken Wings and they were delicious!

Cut your wings in two and if you want, you can cut off the extra little piece so that they look like the wings you get at a restaurant.

Place your wings in your crock pot.

Measure out a cup of Frank’s or your favorite hot sauce.

Cut up a cup of unsalted butter (we use the real stuff around here) and put in your hot sauce.

Microwave hot sauce and butter and stir. Once your butter is melted completely, you will have a nice thick sauce.

Stir one cup of beer into sauce.

Pour sauce over wings.

Cover and cook on low for 6-7 hours or high for 3-4 hours. We did a full 4 hours for ours and they were literally falling off the bone, so that made them a little hard to handle for the next step. So check yours around the 6 (on low) or 3 (on high) hour mark and see if they are done.

Turn on your broiler.

Melt 1/4 of a cup of butter into 1/4 of a cup of Frank’s and stir.

Spread wings out evenly on a broiler pan and coat generously with sauce.

Place wings in broiler for 4-5 minutes. This was only my second time ever using a broiler. So I checked them at the end of every minute to make sure they were crisping up, but not burning.

These Crock Pot Buffalo Chicken Wings were so good, that I’m afraid I will have a hard time keeping Michael from making them every other day!

When I buy wings I always get just the drumettes. How many should I buy for this recipe? Looks delicious and cannot wait to try. Also, would lite beer make a difference? Thank you!

      Hi D. Lawrence!

You would want 24-28 drumettes since you won’t have the flats included with the drummettes. Enjoy!
