Flamingo Bob walks through one the plantation mansions on Curaçao, which remind us of the islands colonial past. Curaçao, together with five other Caribbean islands and Suriname, was conquered by The Netherlands in the 17th century. At this time, these regions are colonial estates in the western hemisphere, where well into the nineteenth century, society is dominated by slavery. Initially, the colonies serve as military bases, trading posts, and plantation colonies. As descendants of an enslaved family, our access to our family's history is limited, making Curaçao and Suriname the heart of our shared heritage. Consequently, MEET BOB also serves as a personal tribute to our intertwined history. As I celebrate Ketikoti today, I proudly honor my heritage and remember the struggles and triumphs of my ancestors who fought against slavery. On this day, 150 years ago, they took their first steps towards liberation. Ketikoti, meaning 'the chains are broken,' marks the emancipation of enslaved Africans and their descendants in Suriname and the Dutch Caribbean. It is a reminder of the resilience and strength that flows through our veins. Let us take this day to educate ourselves and others about this significant chapter in history. Today, we shine a light on the dark history of slavery and commemorate the shadows of our past. As we move forward, it is important to understand that emancipation is not a singular event, but an ongoing struggle for equality and justice that requires collective effort from the global community. Let's use this milestone of 150 years liberation as a reminder of how far we've come, and how much more work there is to be done. Let's celebrate and grow together!#ketikoti #emancipationday #shadowsofourpast

The Assault of LaughterWords of wisdom by the justly esteemed Mr. Mark Twain that might well be carried through the upcoming New Year… “The human race in its poverty has unquestionably one really effective weapon—laughter. Power, money, persuasion. Supplication, persecution—these can lift at a colossal humbug—push it a little, weaken it a little, century by century but, only laughter can blow it to rags and atoms at a blast. Against the assault of laughter nothing can stand.” Although pleasantly ensconced on the other side of the planet, laughter seems to be a trait sorely absent upon the horizon of America. Perhaps, along with truth & tolerance, a casualty of “Political Correctness”. What a shame! Personally, however, I believe that the noblest and most compelling humor is of a self-deprecating nature; not at the expense of others. Consider the current breed of moronic late night show hosts compared to Johnny Carson. They’re simply not funny and that is the mortal sin of comedy. The most egregious example is Trevor Noah. He should go back to where he came from and apply his 3rd rate talents to addressing the rampant racial crimes so prevalent now in South Africa which is rapidly becoming a failed state. There's a "family reunion" forming and it's going to be beautiful. We have so much to discuss and share "...culturally, socially, economically, politically, and educationally". Join us (smile). The African Trans Atlantic Slave Trade Foundation, a developing charitable organization with the very best interest of Africans and the numerous groups of African descendants in over 90 countries/territories around the world known as the African Trans Atlantic Slave Trade Diaspora as its objective.A complete list of the countries directly related to the Trans Atlantic African Slave Trade (also known as the Atlantic slave trade and Euro-American slave trade) occurring between 1501 and 1867 and may just have evolved into one of the world’s largest group of people related “by the roots”(smile). Letter To Everyone:Stay away from people who are needy. Needy indicating that people who need you to do them favors. People who use you for their convenience when they have their free time. These are people who are not worth your time. People who call you all the time needing something every day. These are major red flags that you need to be aware of. People that rank in this category do not have gratitude; they use people. Also, do not volunteer to help people that you do not know well. In general, if people ask you for help, only help them once (the only people you should be helping are your best friends all the time) people that you see every day; not people that you just met. If someone in life really wants something, they will go after it on their own! Remember it’s what you can do for yourself, it’s not what America can do for you! Do not waste your time with people. #elinamaffeo #blogger #lettertoeveryone #beverlyhills #gratitude #grateful #kindness #nice #roma #losangeles #california #belair #centurycity #holmbyhills #fortedeimarmi #rapallo #bologna #media #elinamaffeoworldwide #elinamaffeointernational
